Record #162921:

Rates of Postglacial rock weathering on glacially scoured outcrops (Abisko-Riksgränsen area, 68deg.N) / Marie-Françoise André.

Title: Rates of Postglacial rock weathering on glacially scoured outcrops (Abisko-Riksgränsen area, 68deg.N) / Marie-Françoise André.
Author(s): André, Marie-Françoise.
Date: 2002.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2002.), Vol. 84 A(3-4) (2002)
Abstract: Ice-polished quartz veins, feldspar phenocrysts and quartzite layers were used as reference surfaces to assess impact of Postglacial rock weathering in Lapland. Over 3200 measurements were carried out on roches moutonnés and glaciofluvially scoured outcrops distributed in three study areas. Inferred weathering rates demonstrate that 10 000 years of Holocene weathering did not significantly modify geometry of Weichselian rock surfaces. Rates of general surface lowering varied according to rock type. Comparison with cold and temperate areas suggest that solution rates of carbonate rocks are highly dependent on climate, whilst granular disintegration of crystalline rocks operates independently of environment.
