Record #162831:

Energy balance of a glacier surface: analysis of automatic weather station data from Morteratschgletscher, Switzerland / J. Oerlemans, E.J. Klok.

Title: Energy balance of a glacier surface: analysis of automatic weather station data from Morteratschgletscher, Switzerland / J. Oerlemans, E.J. Klok.
Author(s): Oerlemans, J.
Klok, E. J.
Date: 2002.
In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2002.), Vol. 34(4) (2002)
Abstract: Describes and analyses complete 1 year data set (2000) from automatic weather station (AWS) on snout of Morteratschgletscher, Switzerland. Finds correlation between windspeed and temperature for air temperatures above melting point. Obtains perfect match between calculated and measured ice melt for turbulent exchange coefficient of 0.00153 (reference height 3.5 m). Sensible heat flux is positive, with largest values on fine summer days. Laten heat flux is small and negative in winter. Finds 75% of melt energy supplied by radiation, 25% by turbulent fluxes.
