Record #162488:

Long-term survival of enteric microorganisms in frozen wastewater / Louise V. Parker, C. James Martel.

Title: Long-term survival of enteric microorganisms in frozen wastewater / Louise V. Parker, C. James Martel.
Author(s): Parker, Louise V.
Martel, C. James.
Date: 2002.
In: CRREL Technical Report. (2002.), TR-02-16 (2002)
Abstract: Discusses possible survival for decades of microorganisms contained in frozen sewage bulb at Amundsen-Scott station, Antarctica. Briefly examines structural differences between bacteria, viruses, protozoan cysts and helminth ova typical of domestic wastewater; assesses susceptibility to chilling, freezing, thawing, and frozen storage, and effect of these process on structural components of organisms; and compares findings from field and archaeological studies on ability of enteric microorganisms to withstand natural cold environments.
