[Environmental geochemical index in polar snow and ice and its significance] / Zhang Xiaowei, Kang Jiancheng, Zhou Shangzhe.
Title: | [Environmental geochemical index in polar snow and ice and its significance] / Zhang Xiaowei, Kang Jiancheng, Zhou Shangzhe. |
Author(s): | Xiaowei, Zhang. Jiancheng, Kang. Shangzhe, Zhou. |
Date: | 2002. |
Language: | Chinese. |
In: | Chinese Journal of Polar Research. (2002.), Vol. 14(3) (2002) |
Abstract: | Geochemical impurities give information on local and even global past climate and environment. Those deposited in polar snow come from dust from continents due to weathering, sea salt and gas-derived aerosol from chemical transformation of atmospheric trace gases. Finds concentrations from continents and sea were higher during last glacial than at present in Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets. Human influence has produced increases in sulphate and nitrate in Greenland ice sheet since late 19th century. |
