In: Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (2002.), Vol. 83(50) (2002)
Abstract: Describes emerging system for comprehensive monitoring of permafrost temperatures to detect changes in their stability and predict negative consequences. Surveys previous model attempts, and assesses importance of current findings as permafrost decays. Permafrost laboratory has been set up at Barrow, Alaska, analysing records over recent decades. Data for 370 boreholes from 15 countries could be included in Global Terrestrial Network for Permafrost (GTN-P), with possibility for repeat measurements.
