Abstract: Presents results from feasibility study on use of airborne electromagnetic method (AEM) instrument in Twin Otter fixed-wing aircraft for mapping sea ice thickness. Integrated into system is a laser profilometer to give detailed information on surface topography of ice. All flights were performed over Baltic Sea. Method is capable of measuring thickness and geometry of rubble fields and ice ridges and in polar seas would show better signal-to-noise ratio.
