Abstract: Uses data on sea-surface temperature (SST) and SST anomalies to forecast catches of krill in waters around South Georgia, and assesses usefulness of early summer SST conditions for predicting krill catches for entire year. Discusses relationship between krill catches and hydrological conditions in CCAMLR subarea 48.3, using limited set of satellite SST maps. Drop in SST in 2000-01 had negative effect on krill catches, as advection of Weddell Sea waters to northwest of South Georgia and weakening of influence of Antarctic Circumpolar Current prevented krill from forming stable concentrations on shelf and transported them further out to open sea.
