Abstract: Presents data on relationship between otolith size and body size using large sample of otoliths of Macrourus holotrachys taken as by-catch in commercial longline fishery for toothfish around South Georgia from June-August 2001. Otolith mass provided better estimates of fish length than did length and width measurements. Discusses use of otoliths retrieved from diet samples of higher predators to provide information on type, size, mass and energetic content of fish prey.
