Abstract: Examines assumptions regarding separation of stocks between shelves and banks separated by deep water using tagged fish from fishery around Heard Island and McDonald Islands in Australian Exclusive Economic Zone. Analyses data on movement, growth and trends in fish abundance which indicate very limited pre-maturity dispersal from point of release, with only fish about 850 mm total length dispersing to waters where they are unavailable to fishery. Abundance had reduced since 1998, and four fish were recorded as moving to waters around Crozet or Kerguelen Islands.
