| Abstract: | Reviews history of fishery for Patagonian toothfish in Prince Edward Islands Exclusive Economic Zone with particular reference to large illegal catches and declining longline catch-per-unit-effort. Age structured production model indicates that spawning biomass has been depleted to few percent of pre-exploitation level, and projections suggest that annual catch limit should be reduced to maximum of 400 tonnes. Discusses implications for surveillance of fishery. |
