Abstract: | Master's thesis examines changes in Even understanding of spirits and why some ideas have persisted in spite of Sovietization, whereas others have lost their significance. Shows how Eveny now cope with absence of shaman to mediate between human and spirits. Focuses on community of Eveny in Sakha Republic. In conclusion, argues that negative behaviour among young people highlights need for local spiritual knowledge. |
