Record #161609:

Induction model and observations of onset of magnetospheric substorms / Risto J. Pellinen.

Title: Induction model and observations of onset of magnetospheric substorms / Risto J. Pellinen.
Author(s): Pellinen, Risto J.
Date: 1979.
In: University of Helsinki. Department of Geophysics. Report Series in Geophysics. (1979.), Vol. 12 (1979)
Abstract: Main object was to explain auroral phenomena during quiet and disturbed conditions. Poynting's Theorem can be used to describe energy transfer between particles and fields in night-side magnetosphere during main phases of substorm. Article explains growth phase and auroral breakup and includes mechanism for producing substorm-type Birkeland currents.

A -- Geophysical sciences (general).
(*2) -- Polar regions.
