Abstract: Revealing account of trial of Baffin Inuk Nuqallaq for murder of Robert Janes, who threatened to kill sledge dogs and was therefore executed by Nuqallaq according to Inuit customary law. Case was motivated by desire of Candian government to demonstrate sovereignty by providing test case application of Canadian criminal law.
