Abstract: Introduction by Magnus Magnusson. Morris went on horseback through Iceland in 1871 and 1873, showing fine eye for detail of flowers, landscapes - 'most romantic of all deserts' - "sunsets, vast expanses of lava, magnificent waterfalls, dangerous tracks and more dangerous rivers to be forded. He loved Icelanders: priests, farmers, scholars and children" (especially those long gone). He had already translated several sagas, and journey was around many main saga sites.
