Abstract: Made measurements of methane concentration in frozen soil and ice wedges in eastern Siberia, finding high values in both. Older permafrost contained higher values of methane concentration. Difficulties of observing changes in methane content noted; and methane production decreases in time, so forecasting of methane content in frozen soils remains problematical.
