Record #161192:

A physical SNOWPACK model for the Swiss avalanche warning. Part I. Numerical model / Perry Bartelt, Michael Lehning.

Title: A physical SNOWPACK model for the Swiss avalanche warning. Part I. Numerical model / Perry Bartelt, Michael Lehning.
Author(s): Bartelt, Perry.
Lehning, Michael.
Date: 2002.
In: Cold Regions Science and Technology. (2002.), Vol. 35(3) (2002)
Abstract: States one-dimensional equations governing aspects of phase-changing snowpack, with particular mass boundary conditions. Models snow (ice, water, air) as porous material that can undergo irreversible viscous deformations. Simulates phase changes between components and includes microstructure in definition of snow layers. Uses data from avalanche winter 1999 for comparison, finding model is accurate in predicting build-up and ablation of seasonal alpine snowcover.
