Abstract: Collection of nine separately authored papers demonstrating extent to which polar nations have to large extent shaped their identities, and legitimated their interests, through narratives of polar exploration and colonization. Native peoples have been positioned in these narratives by science and missionary Lutheranism, and have in response developed their own counter-narratives. Papers grouped by subject: meta-narratives of northern nations; claims and controversies in the field; technologies of indigeneity. Individual papers separately catalogued.
