Abstract: Developed low-cost technique using standard digital camera to produce high resolution snow-cover maps of Zackenberg valley, north-east Greenland, and applies these to study of snow-cover depletion in a High Arctic ecosystem. Produced computer program for transforming digital images into orthophotos. Gradual decrease in snow cover gives rise to laterally reversed S-shaped depletion curves. Snow cover decreases at greater rate in valley than higher up during melt season, so snow depletion curves become more linear with increasing altitude.
