Abstract: Evaluates use of SPOT 4 satellite carrying VEGETATION (VGT) sensor to study snow and ice cover across highest region of Asia and provide database of snow and ice cover at 1-km spatial resolution. Snow-and-ice covered areas showed large seasonal variations, and spatial distribution also varied considerably. These link to monsoon climate and precipitation patterns.
