Abstract: Greenlandish hunter Jakob Danielsen of Disko, brush in hand, his mind drifting back to days of childhood, set about illustrating legend to which he had often listened from lips of best narrator of traditional lore in his native district, one of most widely diffused of old Eskimo legends, fom Ammassalik in east to Alaska. Rasmussen took it down on Danish Literary Expedition 1902-04 from Jakuaraq at Godthaab/Nuuk. Intended for oral presentation, including lulling to sleep in long Arctic winters !, gestures and modulation are absent here, but intentional prolixities remain. Introduction describes Danielsen's home life and hunting success.
