Title: Plate tectonic evolution of the Southern Ocean / Karsten Gohl.
Author(s): Gohl, Karsten.
Date: 2002.
Publisher: Bad Durkheim, Germany: POLLICHIA-Museum
In: Proceedings of the 4th International POLLICHIA Symposium 24-26 June 2001 : Perspectives of Modern Polar Research and 175th Anniversary of Georg von Neumayer. (2002.),
Abstract: Discusses recent reconstructions of opening of oceanic gateways showing that Africa broke away from Antarctica 155 million years ago, followed by formation of oceanic plateaus until 80 million years ago. Describes tectonic evolution of southernmost Pacific and formation of basement ridges which supported growth of sediment drifts.
