Evidence of "Mid-Pliocene (c. 3 Ma) global warmth" in the eastern Arctic Ocean and implications for the Svalbard/Barents Sea ice sheet during the late Pliocene and early Pleistocene (c. 3-1.7 Ma) / Jochen Knies, Jens Matthiessen, Christoph Vogt, Ruediger Stein.

In: Boreas. (2002.), Vol. 31(1) (2002)
Abstract: Multiproxy analysis of Hole 911A on Yermak Plateau investigated behaviour of ice sheet. During global warmth, warmer period with seasonally ice-free conditions is assumed to be important moisture source and possible trigger for intensification of glaciation in area at c. 2.7 Ma when abrupt pulse of ice-rafted debris to Plateau reflects melting of sediment-laden icebergs from ice sheet. Spectral analysis of total organic carbon shows mainly terrigenous or fossil-reworked origin. Solar radiation aspects are discussed and related to Earth's orbital obliquity amplitudes.
