Abstract: The species in Linnaeus's genus Peziza from 1753 are treated, taking into consideration their history, current names and classification. Latin diagnoses are translated and etymology of scientific names elucidated. Ecology and distribution of species in North are commented. Change of Peziza L. to Peziza Fr., and typification of these genera, are explained in light of nomenclatural rules following Sydney Congress of 1981. There are no Peziza species in modern sense of genus in Peziza L.. Of 8 species and 1 variety in Linnaeus's genus, 3 taxa are basidiomycetes and 6 ascomycetes. Of latter, 4 species belong in Pezizales, 1 in Leotiales and 1 in Xylariales.
