Record #159661:

Simulations of the consolidated process in first-year sea ice ridges / Knut V. Høyland.

Title: Simulations of the consolidated process in first-year sea ice ridges / Knut V. Høyland.
Author(s): Høyland, Knut V.
Date: 2002.
In: Cold Regions Science and Technology. (2002.), Vol. 34(3) (2002)
Abstract: Applies program ABAQUS in two-dimensional finite element model to calculate thermal loads in temperature development in first-year ice ridges and surrounding level ice. Uses two material models and simulates growth of consolidated layer in three first-year sea ice ridges. Simulations suggest substantial amounts of energy are transferred from water to keel in first week, though purely conductive model is too slow to predict temperature development during initial phase. Porosity limits ratios of thickness of consolidated layer to that of level ice, with processes in initial phase of consolidation key to result.
