Abstract: | Covers history of International Ice Patrol, set up in 1914 after sinking of Titanic to protect shipping in and around Grand Banks area of North Atlantic. US Coast Guard (Revenue Cutter Service) has used airborne radar since World War II for iceberg detection, generally operating from February to July. Includes how to report icebergs and what to include in an ice report. Limit of All Known Ice is estimated every 12 hours and available in various forms. |
