Record #159222:
Anatomy and histology of plesiosaur bones from the Late Cretaceous of Seymour Island, Antarctic Peninsula / Łucja Fostowicz-Frelik, Andrzej Gaździcki.
Title: | Anatomy and histology of plesiosaur bones from the Late Cretaceous of Seymour Island, Antarctic Peninsula / Łucja Fostowicz-Frelik, Andrzej Gaździcki. |
Author(s): | Fostowicz-Frelik, Łucja. Gaździcki, Andrzej. |
Date: | 2001. |
Abstract: | Describes remains of elasmosaurid plesiosaur collected from lower part of Late Cretaceous López de Bertodano Formation on Seymour Island, Antarctica. Well-preserved bone material probably belonging to one specimen includes pectoral, dorsal, and caudal vertebral centra, femur, tibia and fragments of humerus, scapula, and ischia. Dense microstructure of bone tissue and areas of intensive growth suggest subadult stage of ontogeny. Articular surface of vertebral centra and shape of tibia are similar to Mauisaurus from Maastrichtian of New Zealand. In special issue Palaeontological results of the Polish Antarctic Expeditions. Part III. |
Notes: | Offprint: Palaeontologia Polonica. Vol. 60 :7-31. |
