Summer sea ice characteristics of the Chukchi Sea / Kang Jiancheng, Sun Bo, Sun Junying, Meng Guanglin, Kumiko Goto-Azuma.
Title: | Summer sea ice characteristics of the Chukchi Sea / Kang Jiancheng, Sun Bo, Sun Junying, Meng Guanglin, Kumiko Goto-Azuma. |
Author(s): | Jiancheng, Kang. Bo, Sun. Junying, Sun. Guanglin, Meng. Goto-Azuma, Kumiko. |
Date: | 2001. |
In: | Chinese Journal of Polar Science. (2001.), Vol. 12(2) (2001) |
Abstract: | Investigating characteristics of Chukchi Sea sea ice, authors distinguished between melting of surface layer, surface and bottom layers, and total ice, with bottom melting of ice floes most important process. Heated by sun, circulation of warmer water influenced this melting, and balanced fluctuating temperature of sea. Sea ice became mixture of ice and liquid brine. When ice crystals eventually separated, ice collapsed. |
