Abstract: Describes where Kven came from, when and how, and where in North Norway they chose to settle. First trace is 10th Cent. Ladoga bronze ornament found in old market place in Kvaenangen. Tax lists begin to show Kven names in 1521. Settlement seems to have begun in 17th Cent. North Troms fjords must have seemed idyllically peaceful in time of "great turmoil", besides possibilities from fishing and cultivation.
