Title: Tilbage til Hvalrosodden / E.W. Born, M. Acquarone.
Translated title: Return to Hvalrosodden.
Author(s): Born, E. W.
Acquarone, M.
Date: 2001.
Language: Danish.
In: Grønland. (2001.), Vol. 49(2) (2001)
Abstract: Danmark expedition of 1906 needed meat for dogs, and made bloodbath at Hvalrosodden, 11-12 animals shot. In all, expedition killed 90 bear, 60 muskox and 30 walrus over two years. Poor sense of smell even brought walrus ashore to nestle with "sleeping" mates. In 200, author's group came back to odden and looked for haul-out places. They also anaesthetised animals to measure blubber and to attach instruments to tusks for satellite tracking. Stock seemed to be investigating new haul-out sites, suggesting healthy state.
