| Abstract: | Investigates effect of soil contamination by hydrocarbons at three sites in Ross Sea area, Antarctica. Fuel spills are generally responsible for this. Measurements made of climatic conditions and soil properties showed soil surface temperatures above freezing from October to February. Two of three contaminated sites showed increased soil temperatures, probably through increased albedo. Some contaminated soils were weakly hydrophobic. |
