Record #158070:

Characteristics and growth of a snowdrift in Arctic Alaska, U.S.A. / Matthew Sturm, Glen E. Liston, Carl S. Benson, Jon Holmgren.

Title: Characteristics and growth of a snowdrift in Arctic Alaska, U.S.A. / Matthew Sturm, Glen E. Liston, Carl S. Benson, Jon Holmgren.
Author(s): Sturm, Matthew.
Liston, Glen E.
Benson, Carl S.
Holmgren, Jon.
Date: 2001.
In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2001.), Vol. 33(3) (2001)
Abstract: Study of snowdrifts in Arctic Alaska finds they may form in only five weather events, and up to 43% of total volume may appear in just one event. Set of rules developed to predict periods of growth was used successfully. Drift size seems to be limited by precipitation rather than wind, so increase in precipitation could increase drift size and intensify ecological, hydrological and climatic impacts on this Arctic system.
