In: Samefolket. (2001.), Vol. 82(6-7) (2001)
Abstract: Summary of author's doctoral dissertation on "Politics and culture among the Russian Saami". With exception of five visits in 1960s and 1970s, Saami had no contacts with outside Saami organisations. Kola Saami Association was formed in 1989. It followed more local groups at Lovozero (Lujávri). Headquarters was in Murmansk, though many times more Saami were in and around Lovozero. Urbanisation and move to men-only herding are described. Author suggests seeing Saami and their problems as analogous to kulaks.
