Record #157770:

Inge Kleivan og sprogsituationen i Grønland / Christian Berthelsen, Robert Petersen, Karina Kleivan.

Title: Inge Kleivan og sprogsituationen i Grønland / Christian Berthelsen, Robert Petersen, Karina Kleivan.
Translated title: Inge Kleivan and the language situation in Greenland.
Author(s): Berthelsen, Christian.
Petersen, Robert.
Kleivan, Karina.
Date: 2001.
Language: Danish.
In: Grønland. (2001.), Vol. 49(4-5) (2001)
Abstract: Three tributes on language theme, including political connotations, translation of biblical concepts such as Lamb ("seal") of God or descent of dove, and teaching Greenlandic in Denmark. She has contributed to this journal over 30 articles on people, history, literature, craft and language. On schools she wrote from standpoints of minority community teaching. She saw that Danish teachers were not necessarily qualified to teach Greenlanders in Danish. Unbalancing bilingual education in either direction could lead to reaction, with adults back on bench trying to fill gap. (Today, problem is more trilingual!) Inge grounded recommendations in what she saw of kindergartens and other practicalities. Translation problems include some of Andersen's stories. Statistics of capabilities of 190 Greenland students in Denmark are given and commented. Remedies may start at the four Greenland Houses in Denmark.
