Record #157637:

The environmental significance of the trace fossil Rhizocorallium jenense in the Lower Triassic of western Spitsbergen / David Worsley, Atle Mørk.

Title: The environmental significance of the trace fossil Rhizocorallium jenense in the Lower Triassic of western Spitsbergen / David Worsley, Atle Mørk.
Author(s): Worsley, David.
Mørk, Atle.
Date: 2001.
In: Polar Research. (2001.), Vol. 20(1) (2001)
Abstract: Triassic succession comprises two shale-dominated formqations, both coarsening upwards. Trace fossils Rhizocorallium jenense and Skolithos are found in coarser parts. Variations in size and orientation of Rhizocorallium give important information. It occurs in storm-generated siltstones and sandstones. Equivalent marine sediments on NE Greenland also have it abundantly in places. Arctic occurrences contrast with its distribution in Jurassic of Britain and France. All finds suggest early colonisation by burrowing organisms and either poor nutrient levels or high sedimentation rates.
