Abstract: | Author met Olga Melentyeva on bus from Murmansk to conference in Lovozero. Afterwards she stayed on at her flat for couple of days, and learnt how, following perestroika, Christians had increased, in Kola among Free Church. Olga and husband are Christians, and have given up alcohol, but are fairly unusual in their family, several of whom are alcoholics, or have died from it. Bright son in St Petersburg is learning languages; phone is dear, but they have brief chat every week, and Olga sheds tear. Before she left, Mai was given warm boots Olga had sewn. Inset describes Christian craft collective "Light Day" set up by Olga and other women. |
