Record #157315:

Temperature-dependent conduction properties in Arctic fish peripheral nerves / Oscar Moran, Raffaella Melani.

Title: Temperature-dependent conduction properties in Arctic fish peripheral nerves / Oscar Moran, Raffaella Melani.
Author(s): Moran, Oscar.
Melani, Raffaella.
Date: 2001.
In: Polar Biology. (2001.), Vol. 24(1) (2001)
Abstract: Conduction properties of peripheral nerves in eelpouts (Lycodes sp.), snake blenny (Lumpenus lampretaeformis) and polar cod (Boreogadus saida), permanently adapted to low temperatures, were studied. Nerves have two types of fibre with fast (7 m/s) and slow (4 m/s) conduction velocities at 12 deg.C. Temperature dependence was bimodal. Irreversible deterioration of nerve was seen at 19-27 deg.C. Data is compared with that of Mediterranean fish.
Notes:

Polar Biology. Vol. 24(1) :9-15 (2001).

Keywords: 591.18 -- Nervous system.
597 -- Fish.
H4 -- Zoology: fish.
(*3) -- Arctic regions.
(*32) -- Svalbard.
