Abstract: | Submarine records taken in 1999 give evidence from ocean floor as deep as 1 km and show bedforms indicative of glacial scouring and moulding of sea floor, with wide erosion of submarine ridge crests. Gives details of findings, particularly around Chukchi plateau, and ice flow over Lomonosov ridge. These features demonstrate that Antarctic-type ice shelves hundreds of km long were present in Arctic Ocean during Pleistocene glaciations. Seeks to understand events leading to growth and disintegration of Arctic ice shelves together with their interaction with climate. |
