Abstract: Drums were onces seen as primary means of treatment, but now there are seen to have been two: shamanistic-religious and folk (magical) treatment. Sections describe ethno-pharmacological research, distinction between food and medicine, distinctive "Saami" ills (if any), sources of information on Saami medicine, relationship between Saami medicine and school medicine, animals (parts of c. 50 species) in medicine, plants (main source), and other ingredients such as alum, mercury, gunpowder or tar, finally frequency and relevance of treatments, bleeding, cupping and binding.
