Record #156935:

Temporal evolution of primary production in the central Barents Sea / Anna Luchetta, Marina Lipizer, Giorgio Socal.

Title: Temporal evolution of primary production in the central Barents Sea / Anna Luchetta, Marina Lipizer, Giorgio Socal.
Author(s): Luchetta, Anna.
Lipizer, Marina.
Socal, Giorgio.
Date: 2000.
Abstract: Region was surveyed twice under Study of European Arctic Shelf (SEAS) programme in June and July, to describe physical, chemical and biological evolution of system and to estimate primary production. Daily primary production rates are provided for North-South section crossing Polar Front. Rates derived from uptake of nitrate are regarded as new production, while those from oxygen are considered as net community production. They are compared, and estimates from oxygen are seen to express minimal rates of photosynthesis. All measured and calculated parameters indicate shift from eutrophic to oligotrophic conditions to be not merely temporal but also latitudinal.
