Abstract: Presents specifications of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) (to be known as robotic aircraft in future), their controls, engines and functional capabilities. Now employed only by military, future use includes ice reconnaissance, meteorological measurements, inspection of pipelines and environmental monitoring. These could be valuable in traverse of Northern Sea Route. So far no classification or safety standards exist, nor regulations for use of air space in these circumstances.
