Record #156481:

Earthquakes in the Mýrdalsjökull area, Iceland, 1978-1985: seasonal correlation and connection with volcanoes / Páll Einarsson, Bryndís Brandsdóttir.

Title: Earthquakes in the Mýrdalsjökull area, Iceland, 1978-1985: seasonal correlation and connection with volcanoes / Páll Einarsson, Bryndís Brandsdóttir.
Author(s): Einarsson, Páll.
Brandsdóttir, Bryndís.
Date: 2000.
In: Jökull. (2000.), Vol. 49 (2000)
Abstract: Area has been active for over four decades, but without volcanic activity except perhaps beneath glacier. Epicentres fall into two clusters, one in caldera of Katla, other in Godhabunga area. Most earthquakes start within upper 5 km of crust. Both clusters have distinct characteristics of volcanic quakes - emergent P-waves and poor S-waves. Latter cluster is much most likely to occur in latter half of year - factors probably are ice load and pore pressure in crust.
