| Abstract: | Peninsula lies at northern end of exposed part of Palaeogene volcanic province. It is divided by major NW-SE fault system, Cretaceous boundary fault. To south-west lies basin where Cretaceous-Paleocene sediments are overlain by upper Paleocene basalts, while north-east of fault system is elevated area where Precambrian crystalline basement is exposed and is overlain by basalts, with isolated pockets of Paleocene sediments. History is described. Regional structural pattern is mirror image of structure from NE side of Gulf of Suez. |
