Abstract: Evaluates and interprets Norwegian and Swedish sources. Early ones such as Johannes Schefferus (who needed to clear Swedish armies in Thirty Years' War of accusation of using Saami sorcerers), Samuel Rheen and Johannes Tornaeus shared some sources. In 1710s and 1720s Thomas von Westen was leader of missions and collector. He for one noted places his statements came from. Rituals collected included bear ceremonies, moon and sacrificial rites.
