Abstract: | Fish concentrate biomass from plankton over huge areas and move it towards coasts. There they gather in shoals and are easy to catch. Norwegian spring-spawning herring are world's largest herring stock. Inset describes huge variations in stock size of north-east Arctic cod and spring-spawning herring over last 50 years, with too large catches threatening stocks again. |
