Planktic and benthic foraminifera as indicators of past ocean changes in surface and deep waters of the Nordic Seas / Henning A. Bauch, Ulrich Struck, Jörn Thiede.

In: Northern North Atlantic : a changing environment. (2000.),
Abstract: Sediment cores covering past five climatic cycles were examined to clarify climate-induced relation between pelagic and benthic realms. Highest abundances of foraminifera were seen during peak interglacials. Distinct differences in species composition characterize some interglacials and short time intervals. These compositions have no modern analogue during present interglacial, so suggest that oceanographic conditions were different from those prevailing today. Direct linkage between pelagic and benthic faunal productivity persists throughout Holocene, extending to surface.
