Record #156366:

Palaeoceanographic proxies in the northern North Atlantic / Mara Weinelt, and 11 others.

Title: Palaeoceanographic proxies in the northern North Atlantic / Mara Weinelt, and 11 others.
Author(s): Weinelt, Mara.
Date: 2000.
Publisher: Heidelberg, Germany: Springer
In: Northern North Atlantic : a changing environment. (2000.),
Abstract: Proxy indicators of physical boundary conditions were sea surface temperature, salinity, circulation patterns, deep-water ventilation, nutrient cycles and response of biota. Low surface temperatures, sea ice, strong seasonality and vigorous thermohaline circulation cause severe difficulty for applying classical temperature, salinity, nutrient and flux proxies. Quantitative estimates are provided for temperature, salinity and seasonal duration of sea ice cover, though with larger margins of error than south of Iceland. Proxies based on benthic foraminifera, representing biotic processes at benthic boundary layer (assemblage composition and isotopic signals of benthic foraminifera) show potential as indicators of carbon flux and deep-water ventilation.
