Abstract: Presents integrated model approach for estimating snow loading in steep avalanche slopes. Aims to judge erodability of deposited snow and provides information on status of snowpack on slope, crucial for estimation of slope stability. Results from January 1999 in Alps show good agreement with measurements. Future developments may aid avalanche warning. Model is first available tool to study atmosphere-snow-vegetation interaction and distribution of SWE in steep Alpine terrain.
