Abstract: Experimental study of polyethylen specimens sliding on ice gives results comparable to notion of overall kinetic friction exhibiting three components. Dry friction dominates at low temperatures, with increasing temperature more lubricated friction decreases coefficient of friction, though with higher temperatures capillary drag effects increase friction again. Confirms results by field measurements of gliding with skis on snow.
