Uppsats vid Umeå universitet: Etnisk utrensing av samer i Sverige / Katarina Hällgren.
Title: | Uppsats vid Umeå universitet: Etnisk utrensing av samer i Sverige / Katarina Hällgren. |
Translated title: | Article for Umeå University: Ethnic cleansing of Saami in Sweden. |
Author(s): | Hällgren, Katarina. |
Date: | 2000. |
Language: | Swedish. |
In: | Samefolket. (2000.), Vol. 81(8) (2000) |
Abstract: | Sociologist Eva-Britt Nilsson has written "From simplicity to multiplicity? On the non-reindeer herding Saami's situation in Sweden". New herding law is due in 2003. Meanwhile ethnic identity is burning question. Out of 17 000 - 20 000 Saami, only 325 run sustainable herds; 38 of these are women. She even sees South Saami to be preservable, with help of "Leva i Saepmie" programme. Nilsson comes from Vapsten, Björkvattsdalen, only place where northern Saami, displaced by Norway's restraints on summer grazing, gained acceptance. However, Government seems to be using "divide and rule", besides seeing Saami land as "wilderness". |
