Record #156117:
Chronology and palaeoenvironments during the late Weichselian deglaciation of the south-west Iceland shelf / Anne Jennings, and 7 others.
Title: | Chronology and palaeoenvironments during the late Weichselian deglaciation of the south-west Iceland shelf / Anne Jennings, and 7 others. |
Author(s): | Jennings, Anne. |
Date: | 2000. |
In: | Boreas. (2000.), Vol. 29(3) (2000) |
Abstract: | Foraminifera, sediments and tephra geochemistry in core from SW Iceland shelf were used to reconstruct palaeoenvironments between 12 700 and 9 400 yrs. ¹⁴C BP. Seismic-reflection profiles place core in sediments within one metre of underlying glacial till. Foraminifera in earliest sediments provide record of ice-distal conditions and immigration of slope species onto shelf in association with warm Atlantic water. Arctic conditions began by 11 140 BP with abrupt increase in meltwater and near exclusion of boreal fauna. Other notable swings include inferred jökulhlaup. |
